Ever since HGTV started its Dream Home Giveaway in 1997, viewers have tuned in to see the latest in luxury home design and décor. The network later added two additional annual luxury home contests: The Urban Oasis and Smart Home, the latter serving as a showcase for state-of-the-art technology. Despite Scottsdale’s high livability index and recent ranking as the nation’s #1 place for employment, the HGTV trio had never featured a luxury home giveaway in the area until now.
HGTV’s 2017 Smart Home is a high-tech, 3-bedroom, desert style ranch located near Whisper Rock Golf Course in North Scottsdale. At just 3,300 square feet, the Candelaria Design build isn’t exactly massive for a luxury home. What it lacks in size, this year’s Smart Home makes up for in state-of-the-art gadgetry and stunning interior decor courtesy of HGTV Design Star season eight winner, Tiffany Brooks.
Here are just a few of the perks of this year’s HGTV Smart Home. The contest ran April 12 through June 2, with the winner soon to be announced.
Waterfall countertops: A new trend in quartz and granite countertops, waterfall styles cascade over the side of your island or counter. The 2017 HGTV Smart Home kitchen’s center island features a white waterfall quartz top with delicate black veining for a classic, seamless look. Rustic grey cabinets were installed in the island to highlight the grain of the wood and provide contrast to the countertops. At Walt Danley Realty, prospective buyers will find trendy kitchen upgrades like these in many of our Scottsdale luxury homes.
Remote everything: There’s an app for that. Literally. Nearly everything inside the Scottsdale Smart Home can be controlled remotely, from motorized skylights to window blinds, garage doors and a remote pulley system for bike storage. Not to mention the more obvious day-to-day tech such as TVs and alarms. The home office is the central hub of the 2017 Smart Home’s stellar security system, which comes equipped with 41 sensors and internal cameras that can be viewed remotely on your smartphone or tablet.
Modern wet bar: This is as far from the kitschy woodgrain bars of the 1970s as you can get. Tucked in a dedicated corner of the great room, the U-shaped wet bar is decked out with quartz countertops, counter-height stools and modern pendant lighting to illuminate the home’s vaulted ceiling. Look for two under-counter refrigerators and a high-end wine chilling and dispensing station that’s fully automated and temperature controlled.
Scottsdale 85266: Currently listing at an average of $799,000, North Scottsdale homes in the area between Jomax Rd. and Cave Creek Rd. have a higher price per square foot than many of the surrounding areas. Values have gone up 6.2% in the last year, according to Zillow. The surrounding mountains offer picturesque desert views and myriad hiking trails, and entertainment amenities from museums and sports stadiums to deluxe movie theatres are just a quick ride away.
