How To Change Up Your Memorial Day Celebration

Memorial Day commemorates the men and women of our nation’s armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for all Americans. At Walt Danley Realty, we honor those who have given all for us and the freedom we enjoy in our great country.

This national holiday also signifies the unofficial beginning of the summer season. For many, this means coming together with family and friends to enjoy a day together with a delicious BBQ meal.

While it may seem traditional to serve up hot dogs, hamburgers, and other standard fare, here are some unique twists that you can incorporate into your Memorial Day celebration:

America, The Beautiful

As a quintessential American holiday, Memorial Day is a time to bring out the red, white, and blue. While it may seem somewhat challenging, how about serving only foods that match the colors of our flag? You can improvise of course with the meat, but steaks or burgers can be considered red depending on how you cook them. Chicken or pork are also considered “white meats”, so there’s that, too. And if you want to take your theme to the next level, you can always top your main dishes with bleu cheese or red-hot salsa to add to the color scheme.

As for other options, fresh fruits like strawberries, watermelon, and blueberries are delicious and colorful in salads or desserts. Your potato salad can be made with red potatoes and, if you shop at specialty grocery stores, you can find red, white, and blue corn tortilla chips. Drinks, of course, can also be as patriotic as your party. Sangria, punch, and drinks made with Blue Curacao can all fit the bill.

From Sea To Shining Sea

Another way to capitalize on the American theme is to serve foods from various regions across our land. For example, you can represent New England with fresh Maine lobster, Boston baked beans, and blueberry pie. Fried chicken, greens, and peach cobbler served with sweet tea can bring the heart of South to your Memorial Day table. Of course, you can’t go wrong with such Midwestern treats as Kansas City barbecue or Chicago red hots and cold beer. And if you’re catering to a health-conscious crowd, there is always California cuisine featuring brick-oven pizzas topped with spinach and artichokes and served with avocado and arugula salad and a nice Cabernet.

As you can see, it is easy to get creative when you put your mind to it. Finding new ways to please your Memorial Day guests can make your party the one to come to year after year.

No matter how you plan your Memorial Day gathering, we would like to extend our gratitude to our clients for choosing Walt Danley Realty and thank all military members and their families for their service. Thank you from all of us at Walt Danley Realty!
